Jackson Preparatory & Early College (JPEC) offers a distinctive educational opportunity to middle and high school students looking for a tuition-free personalized learning experience. We’ve put together this glossary of JPEC-specific terms as a helpful guide to our unique vocabulary that describes our extraordinary program.
Associate’s Degree
This is a degree granted after a two-year course of post-high school study, especially by a community or junior college. Students enrolled in JPEC’s Early College program earn an associate’s degree and a high school diploma simultaneously and tuition-free while enrolled in our school.
College Preparatory
JPEC’s middle school program for students in grades 6-8. Here you’ll develop the college and career readiness skills essential to a successful experience at the Early College level.
Competency-based Learning
At JPEC we measure academic progress based on what you know how to do, not just what you know. Students have the option of moving quickly through course requirements or slowing down to focus on mastering the skills they need for the Early College program.
Dual Enrollment
JPEC Early College students earn college credits through dual enrollment with Jackson College while still attending JPEC, all at no financial cost to the student or their family.
Early College
Also known as middle college, Early College blends high school and college courses, reducing the time it takes to complete a high school diploma and an associate’s degree. Our 5-year program enables every JPEC student to earn at least 60 college credits at no cost and graduate with a minimum of 2 years of college course work completed.
Education Innovation Center
Our facilities dedicated to JPEC middle school which includes grades 6-8, located on the campus of Jackson College. Our students have full use of the college’s world-class facilities.
