• Orientation and Picture Day give new students a chance to walk the halls, meet teachers, and get comfortable with campus before the first bell rings.

A lot of that behind-the-scenes work happens through JPEC's counseling program, led by Mrs. Jessica Yonnick. Her team is building out a comprehensive approach to counseling that covers three areas every transitioning student needs:

• Academic support: helping students understand new schedules, grading, and expectations.
• Career guidance: connecting students to college courses and career certificate options as soon as they're ready.
• Personal and social development: making sure students feel like they belong, not just like they're keeping up.
• Whether a student is new to JPEC or new to the idea of college-level coursework, our counseling team is a first stop for questions, big or small.

Transitions go smoother when families know what to expect. Here's what that looks like at JPEC:

• Before school starts: New families get a schedule, a campus tour, and a chance to ask questions at Orientation, held on August 18 alongside Picture Day.
• The first few weeks: Teachers check in early and often, especially with students who are new to competency-based learning or a college campus setting.
• All year long: Parent-teacher conferences, staff who show up to games and events, and an open-door culture mean support doesn't stop after week one.
